<<<STORYLINE>>>

A very nice movie "A Chinese Ghost Story" is! Great 3-D effects and an interesting plot gives this movie a 4 stars. The Chinese dubbing is well done, with a practically all-star Chinese cast. Such HK Stars like Kelly Chen, Ronald Cheng, participate in the dubbing of this movie. One thing that's extremely strange about this movie is the English names given to all the characters.

Once upon a time, in the land where heaven and the underworld meet, lived a young man called Ning. Ning had a girlfriend whom he had only seen twice for two years. One day Lan married someone else. On the day of her wedding, she returned Solid Gold to Ning. Lan wanted neither Ning's promise of a future of solid gold nor Solid Gold the dog. Lan wanted love.

Ning and Solid Gold set off. 'I worked hard to get her, and I'm working hard to forget her...Oh, c'est la vie." Ning mused aloud.

One night in a godforsaken temple Ning encountered the powerful White Cloud and his protege Ten Miles, two monks who doubled as ghostbusters wandering around chasing after evil spirits in the name of heaven, clearing the earth on their way.

Earth must have been a godforsaken place at that time. Ning the debt collector arrived at the Vainly Beautiful City to do his work but found himself surrounded by all sorts of unspeakably nasty creatures. At the Gourmet City, he met Shine. Shine wasn't there to "meet" Ning as such, she was there for her crop. Shine was the follower of Madame Trunk and responsible to bring fresh human spirits for the Madame to feed on in order to maintain her beauty.

Red Beard, another ghostbuster, came and destroyed the city. Only that Red Beard acted with a human heart. On that chaotic night, Shine saved Ning from the hands of the nasty ghosts; then Ning saved Shine from the hands of Red Beard. The two of them in turn were saved by Staircase Boogie and landed on the Reincarnation Train. Shine didn't want to reincarnate and miss forever her sweetheart, Evil Mountain the gigantic idol of the Ghost World. Upset and disappointed, Ning nevertheless offered to escort Shine back to Vainly Beautiful City to see Evil Mountain in Concert.

Alas, the road was long difficult. Ambushed by White Cloud and Ten Miles, Ning could only escape with the help of Red Beard after sacrificing his vehicle Way of Ways. Once again, Red Beard betrayed his fellow human beings.

All hell broke loose at the party at the Halloween Planet. Evil Mountain got mad and turned ugly when Shine accidentally tore his hair. A fight between Evil and the ghostbusters broke off when the Master and his protege arrived.

Disheartened, Ning once again offered himself to Shine, this time as the nutritional element of Madame . Shine gently accepted. Taking the spirit off Ning's body, Shine led the way back to the Glory Hole of Madame. Inside the Hole, just when Ning was going to be sucked in by Madame, Shine regretted. With the help of little sister Butterfly, Shine and Ning took off.

The work was large but places to go were few, Ning and Shine together opted for the chance of a rebirth. In the best of all possible worlds, Shine and Ning would reborn together and live happily ever after. Only that they have to be careful with the Void Hammers, the hammers that void your memory before each rebirth. In front the Reincarnation Gate , the two vowed to each other not to forget, that they would seek each other out in their future life......
